The Client
Sainsbury’s supermarket in Truro, Cornwall has a 411-space car park split over two levels.
The Challenge
Sainsbury’s required a cost-effective and reliable means of helping customers to find free parking spaces while aiding a more even distribution of vehicles between the two levels.
The Solution
In partnership with Access Automation, Nortech provided a standalone NCT200 Counter Module and two sets of Variable Message Signs together with vehicle detectors for the access lanes to each level. The system counts vehicles in and out of each level and calculates the number of available spaces on each level by subtracting the number of vehicles currently on each level from its total capacity. This accounts for vehicles circulating around the level as well as vehicles that are parked.
In this type of application, the compact NCT200 module operates as an autonomous counting system that can keep up to four independent counts with individual increment and decrement inputs. The signs are controlled via an RS485 bus.
