DU100 Vehicle Detector Diagnostic Unit

DU100

'Fault Analysis and Installation Verification for Standard Detectors'

Hand held test instrument capable of providing installation/service personnel with positive verification of the correct operation of a PDx3x range vehicle detector installation.

PRODUCT FEATURES & BENEFITS

The DU100 Diagnostic Unit may be utilised in conjunction with Nortech standard 3-series inductive loop detectors, which have integral diagnostic capability.

Current operational and historical data are transferred from the vehicle detector to the DU100 by means of an optical link. Data transmission from the vehicle detector is continuous during normal operation. This allows diagnostics without service disruption. Received data is verified for integrity by means of a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) process, and then displayed on the LCD screen.

The DU100 Diagnostic Unit is indispensable for:

  • Setting and verifying detector sensitivity
  • Performance checks on loops and installation
  • Checking intermittent failures through the historical data
  • Eliminating any detector crosstalk

features

  • Compact, self-contained unit
  • Exclusive optical readout
  • No service disruptions
  • Loop diagnostics
  • Historical data available
  • Unique crosstalk monitor

Non-Disruptive Diagnostics for 3-Series Vehicle Detector Installations

The DU100 Diagnostic Unit transforms how installation and maintenance teams verify vehicle detector performance at parking facilities, gated communities, and industrial sites. Rather than disrupting live traffic flow to test detector function, engineers can extract real-time and historical data through the optical link without affecting barrier operations—critical for busy car parks where even brief service interruptions create vehicle queues.

Maintenance contractors supporting multiple sites carry the compact DU100 as a standard toolkit item for scheduled inspections and emergency callouts. The historical data feature proves invaluable when investigating intermittent detection failures at hospital entrances, retail parks, or logistics hubs—technicians can review past events to identify patterns without recreating fault conditions. The crosstalk monitor function helps commissioning engineers optimise multi-lane installations at airports and distribution centres where adjacent loops require careful frequency management.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which detector models are compatible with the DU100? Frequently Asked Questions

The DU100 works exclusively with Nortech 3-series inductive loop detectors (PD130/PD230 families) that have integral diagnostic capability. It is not compatible with 8-series detectors, which use the wireless DU800 diagnostic unit instead.

How does the optical data transfer work? Frequently Asked Questions

The detector continuously transmits operational data via an optical output. The DU100's detachable wand with photodiode receives this data when positioned near the detector faceplate. A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) verifies data integrity before displaying on the LCD screen.

What information can the DU100 display? Frequently Asked Questions

The unit shows loop frequency (1Hz resolution), sensitivity (0.001% ΔL/L resolution), detection status, fault conditions, and historical event data. This allows technicians to verify detector settings, assess loop health, and investigate past fault occurrences.

How long does the battery last and what power source is used? Frequently Asked Questions

The DU100 operates on 4 x 1.5V AA dry cells providing over 10 hours of continuous use. Auto power-off activates after 2 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. The unit weighs just 380g including batteries for comfortable handheld operation.

What are the operating temperature limits for the DU100? Frequently Asked Questions

The diagnostic unit operates from 0°C to +50°C, suitable for typical site conditions but more restricted than the detectors themselves. For outdoor diagnostics in extreme temperatures, ensure the unit remains within this range during use.
