Wall Switch Proximity Reader

WP1 Series

'Elegant, Rugged and Adaptable'

Designed to fit UK standard wall switch back boxes. Suits most architectural and interior design settings, while the robust ABS polycarbonate construction allows it to be used in most working environments.

PRODUCT FEATURES & BENEFITS

The WP1 proximity readers can read a wide range of 125kHz type proximity cards and tokens. Most models can support two or more card technologies including those used by many third party systems such as PAC and Paxton, and provide a selection of output formats.

WP1 card readers are the perfect choice of reader for new installations, while the wide choice of supported technologies makes it cost-effective for extending existing third party installations and for supporting the use of existing proximity cards and tokens in new access control applications.

benefits

  • Reader selection is simplified by combining the flexibility of the reader series with the backup of Nortech’s access control and proximity reader know-how
  • Elegant design and easy installation enables installers to add a professional finish to any access control project
  • Compatibility with most controllers reduces the cost of upgrades and extensions
  • Offers cost savings by enabling existing cards and tokens to be re-used on new installations
  • Combined with Nortech’s access control systems, provides a flexible, robust and cost-effective solution can be configured to meet most small to medium access control applications

Professional Access Control with Seamless UK Back Box Integration

The WP1 wall switch reader transforms standard electrical back boxes into secure access points, delivering a clean professional finish that blends with existing interior design schemes.

Ideal for corporate headquarters, healthcare facilities, and hospitality environments, this reader mounts flush with surrounding light switches and sockets for visual consistency.

Office fit-outs, hotel corridor access, and hospital department entrances all benefit from its unobtrusive 18mm depth profile that doesn't protrude into traffic areas.Supporting both 125kHz proximity and 13.56MHz smart card technologies, the WP1 addresses diverse security requirements from basic staff access to high-security data centre protection.

The reader accommodates phased credential upgrades—continuing to read legacy fobs while introducing encrypted Mifare or LEGIC cards. Available in charcoal grey, black, white, and chrome finishes, it complements interior aesthetics while delivering enterprise-grade performance for mixed-use developments and tenant buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What finishes are available for the WP1? Frequently Asked Questions

The WP1 is available in charcoal grey (standard), black, white, and chrome finishes. Custom branding options are also available for volume orders requiring corporate identity integration.

Does the WP1 fit standard UK electrical back boxes? Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the WP1 is specifically designed to fit standard UK single-gang wall switch back boxes (86mm square), enabling straightforward installation using existing electrical infrastructure.

What smart card technologies are supported? Frequently Asked Questions

Beyond 125kHz proximity, the WP1 supports 13.56MHz technologies including ISO15693 and ISO14443A standards—covering LEGIC Advant, LEGIC Prime, Mifare, iCLASS, ICODE, and Tag-it 2. Secure sector reading is available for encrypted credentials.

Can the WP1 read existing PAC and Paxton fobs? Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the WP1-DP1 DualProx model reads both old-style PAC fobs and new 125kHz PAC credentials, plus EM-type cards. The WP1-EM1 model reads Paxton cards and fobs alongside standard open-format proximity credentials.

What is the power consumption? Frequently Asked Questions

The WP1 draws a maximum of 250mA at 5-16VDC. This higher current supports the multi-technology antenna systems required for 125kHz and 13.56MHz simultaneous operation.
