Vehicle access control for corporate campuses and asset storage sites

Volume traffic, mixed users. One elegant access experience.

Trusted by

Vehicle access control for a corporate campus, a business park or an asset storage site has to carry high volumes of regular users at predictable peaks, an unpredictable visitor flow through the day and contractors and deliveries on top of that, and still feel modern, secure and friction-free. Nedap uPASS Go identifies staff and members on a single windscreen tag, Transit Ultimate covers the higher-volume and VIP lanes from up to 15 metres, and ANPR Lumo handles visitors and contractors by number plate.

We distribute and support all three as Nedap's certified UK partner, and work with your installer from specification to commissioning.

High volumes, mixed users, one entrance

Corporate campuses, business parks and asset storage sites face a deceptively complex vehicle access challenge: high volumes of employee or member traffic concentrated around predictable peaks, an unpredictable visitor flow throughout the day, contractors and deliveries on top of that, and an expectation that the whole experience feels modern, secure and friction-free.

A card-tap at the barrier holds the morning queue, an app is the wrong thing to fumble with on a winter morning, and a visitor who has to stop at a barrier they didn't expect has had a poor first impression before they have parked.

The access control platform should be the customer's choice, with no proprietary front-end software and no licensing model that escalates with the size of the site.

  • The challenge

    The morning peak

Hundreds of staff or members arrive within the same half hour, and a card-tap or an app at the barrier holds the queue.

    The answer

A windscreen tag read as they arrive

uPASS Go reads a battery-free UHF tag from up to 10 metres: no card-tap, no app to fumble with on a winter morning. It is the right choice where read range needs are moderate and cost matters.

  • The challenge

Lanes that need more range or speed

An executive car park, a VIP entrance or a high-volume lane needs the barrier open before the vehicle has slowed.

    The answer

Transit Ultimate on the lanes that need it

Transit Ultimate reads from up to 15 metres at up to 200 km/h, so the busiest and the most sensitive lanes open without a pause, on the same system as the rest of the site.

  • The challenge

Visitors stopped at a barrier they didn't expect

A visitor or contractor who was pre-registered still arrives at a closed barrier with nothing to present.

    The answer

Number plates tied to the visitor list

ANPR Lumo reads the plate from 2 to 10 metres and integrates with visitor management platforms, so a pre-registered visitor never has to stop.

  • The challenge

Software that grows with the site

A proprietary front end, a licence that escalates with every bay, and lock-in to one vendor's roadmap.

    The answer

One open platform, the customer's choice

Every credential ties back to a single open-architecture access control platform, the one already on site or Norpass3, which is licence-free.

Which reader for which vehicle

A campus entrance sees three kinds of vehicle: the regular users who come every day, the lanes that need more range or speed, and visitors and contractors with no tag. Each is identified in the way that suits it, and all three readers report to the same platform.

Main reader

Members, students and staff

Nedap uPASS Go

Regular users carry a single passive UHF tag in the windscreen, and uPASS Go reads it from up to 10 metres as they arrive: no card-tap and no app. At the Caravan and Motorhome Club's two storage sites, 600 vehicles carry tamperproof uPASS Go windscreen tags.

How uPASS Go works at the campus gate

Isometric view of a campus gate: a compact uPASS Go reader on a pole reads the battery-free tag in an approaching car's windscreen from up to 10 metres, the access control platform checks it, the barrier opens and the movement is logged, with a glazed office block and staff cars in bays beyond
  1. Vehicle approaches

uPASS Go reads the battery-free windscreen tag from up to 10 metres as the car arrives.

  2. Tag checked

The access control platform checks it against staff, members and registered vehicles.

  3. Barrier opens

No card-tap, no app, no stopping.

  4. Movement logged

Vehicle and time, so the site knows who is in and when they left.

Beyond the main entrance

The main entrance is usually where a project starts. The same tag identifies the vehicle at the other points a campus or storage site controls.

  • Staff and member car parks

A reader at each car park entrance gives the right people the right car park, on the same windscreen tag.

  • Executive and VIP parking

Transit Ultimate opens the executive lane from up to 15 metres, so nobody waits at the barrier.

  • Storage compounds

At a caravan or motorhome storage site the tag is matched to the owner's card, so a vehicle cannot leave without the site knowing, as at the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

  • Service yards and deliveries

Deliveries and contractors are identified by number plate with ANPR Lumo.

Case study

The Caravan and Motorhome Club, Folkestone and Ashwell

The club had no automated way to know which vehicles were on site across its two storage facilities, so staff physically checked more than 400 bays, a slow and error-prone process that left members without the reassurance that their caravans were secure.

Nortech deployed uPASS Go readers at each site entrance alongside Paxton Net2, with a tamperproof UHF windscreen tag on every vehicle matched to the owner's proximity card. Every movement is logged automatically, and an unauthorised movement raises an alert.

  • 600 vehicles tagged across two storage sites
  • Real-time entry and exit logging in place of bay-by-bay checks
  • Instant alerts for unauthorised movements

Works with the access control platform of your choice

None of the readers needs its own software. uPASS Go hands the tag number to the access control platform as a standard reader over Wiegand or magstripe, Transit Ultimate over Wiegand or RS232 as standard with RS422, RS485, TCP/IP and Profibus DP interface boards, and ANPR Lumo over Wiegand, RS485 or Ethernet, with a REST interface for other software.

Every credential ties back to a single open-architecture access control platform of the customer's choosing. There is no proprietary front-end software, no licensing model that escalates with site size and no lock-in to a single vendor's roadmap. Where a site has no platform, Norpass3, our licence-free access control software, takes all three readers.

ANPR Lumo integrates with visitor management platforms so pre-registered visitors flow through, and our engineers work through the integration with you or your installer before the hardware is specified.

Campus vehicle access control FAQs

What is vehicle access control for a corporate campus?

Vehicle access control for a corporate campus or business park identifies each vehicle arriving at the entrance or a car park and decides whether the barrier should open. Staff and members are usually identified by a long-range RFID tag in the windscreen, visitors and contractors by number plate, and every movement is logged.

Do staff have to tap a card or use an app at the barrier?

No. uPASS Go reads a passive UHF tag in the windscreen from up to 10 metres, so the barrier opens as the car arrives. There is no card-tap and no app to fumble with on a winter morning, and the tag has no battery to replace.

When is Transit Ultimate the better choice?

On higher-volume or higher-speed lanes, including VIP and executive parking. It reads from up to 15 metres at up to 200 km/h, so the barrier is open before the vehicle has slowed. uPASS Go is the right choice where read range needs are moderate and cost matters, and the two can share one site.

How are visitors and contractors handled?

By number plate. ANPR Lumo reads the plate from 2 to 10 metres and integrates with visitor management platforms, so a pre-registered visitor never has to stop at a barrier they didn't expect. A vehicle that isn't expected stays at the barrier and is dealt with by reception in the usual way.

Can it tell us which vehicles are on site?

Yes. Each read is logged with the vehicle and time, so the site knows who is in and when they left. At the Caravan and Motorhome Club's two storage sites, 600 vehicles carry tamperproof uPASS Go windscreen tags matched to the owner's card, and an unauthorised movement raises an alert.

Are we tied to one software vendor?

No. Every credential ties back to a single open-architecture access control platform of your choosing. There is no proprietary front-end software, no licensing model that escalates with site size and no lock-in to a single vendor's roadmap. If the site has no platform, Norpass3 is licence-free.

How much does vehicle access control for a campus cost?

It depends on the number of entrances and car parks, how many vehicles need tags, whether visitors are read by ANPR, and the barrier work your installer carries out. Our ANPR system cost guide covers typical camera and installation costs, or ask us for a quote for your site.
